A new agent and a new (lower) price, this Bauhaus-inspired property in Hamble, near Southampton, Hampshire is back on the market.
The Crowsport Estate, dating back to the 1930s, was commissioned by Sir Thomas Lipton, with the group of modernist houses overlooking the marina now protected as a conservation scheme. Sadly, this isn’t one of those houses, but it is a rare new build in that area.
It isn’t alone. Permission has been granted to build some contemporary houses, but they do have to be in keeping with the existing architecture. As you can see, this particular property is inspired by the international style and at first glance, could pass for a 1930s original. But quite obviously isn’t.
The house, which is known as Glashaus, was designed by Andy Ramus, Chairman of RIBA Hampshire and Director of multi-award winning practice AR Design Studio. It dates back to 2009 and was shortlisted for the RIBA Downland Prize in 2010. So some pedigree.
You will find this one at the higheast point of the estate, so some great views from the raised corner plot. In fact, you can see the marina from the higher levels.
The view inside is pretty good too. Although, unlike the exterior, this one doesn’t really try to fit in with the older properties on the estate. At least, not in terms of the finish.
The principles are the same though, with the white walls, the open spaces and the clean lines throughout. Bauhaus is definitely an inspiration from the front door through to the flat roof and much in-between.
But the finish is as contemporary as you would expect of an award winning, modern-era build. Premium fittings abound here.
Head in and you are greeted by the glass atrium and ‘floating’ staircase with glass bannister, which takes you to the first floor accommodation.
The main living room has window to the front and side, as well as a flat glass lantern roof and two window seats. There is also a ceiling projector and recessed, electronic drop down cinema screen, as well as bi-fold doors opening out onto the balcony for those views of the Port Hamble Marina.
A glass walk way leads into kitchen/dining area, which offers typically high end kitchen units (see the estate agent details for the full and extensive breakdown) and a spacious dining area, with the option to expand further when the bi-fold doors are open onto the second balcony and views of the river.
On the ground floor you will find the master bedroom, which was previously used as a study or second living room, complete with an en-suite, four further bedrooms and a bathroom, Completing things inside is a utility room.
Outside is a garden, mainly laid to lawn and with a garden shed and off road parking for two vehicles or a boat. Yes, this is a boat area.
As I said, the house was up for sale previously, but back in May in fact. But things have moved since, both in terms of the agent selling this one and the price, which has come down a bit. Previously £1,150,000, it is now on the market for £975,000. A good sized drop, but still a pricey affair.
