Always a popular block, which is why I am flagging up this 1930s apartment in George Bertram Carter’s Taymount Grange, London SE23.

The striking period block dates back to around 135 or 1936, designed by George Bertram Carter in a modernist / art deco style that is still reminiscent of its original era.
The white facade certainly helps on that front (it has recently been repainted), as do the large and original Crittall windows. There is also a refurbished communal area too and a wonderful 1930s staircase within.
Don’t worry, you don’t have to hike up all the stairs to get to this top floor apartment, unless you are trying to keep fit. There is a lift to all floors and an intercom system to save your legs and energy levels.
As I said, this is a top floor flat and as such, offers up some wonderful views over southeast London through its vintage windows. It is also a rather stylish living space too, having been renovated to a very high standard.
I know the term ‘renovation’ can be a double-edged sword when it comes to period builds, but the owners have done a great job here of marrying together the original character of Taymount Grange with some more contemporary finishes. Everything you would expect of a modern apartment, but with a look of something from the 1930s. Retaining and refurbishing the original doors, cupboards, and cast-iron radiators certainly helps.
