It isn’t in original condition, but let’s not write off this 1930s art deco property in Edinburgh, Scotland, as it is rather lovely.
Thanks to Joan on Twitter for letting me know about this one, which is to be found in ‘one of Edinburgh’s most desirable residential areas’ and still has some serious curb appeal. From the outside, this really is the 1930s typified.
But there is a slightly different story once you get beyond that front door. First up, there is an ‘architect designed extension to the side and rear’, which could spell bad news, but actually sits well with the original structure.
I suppose that’s the benefit of paying an architect rather than just sticking up a conservatory or a sun room.
Secondly, the house has been thoroughly renovated. But again, that’s not the disaster it could be. Yes, there is a (very) modern kitchen and breakfast area here, but beyond that, everything is fairly plain and neutral, with the maintained windows keeping the character alive.
Art deco for the modern family and a house I certainly wouldn’t mind moving into.
In terms of the space, this is a semi-detached house on a large corner plot, with the internal accommodation kicking off with a hallway with storage, a south facing sitting room with large window and fireplace with wood burning stove, that spacious kitchen / dining room with sliding doors to the rear garden, two double bedrooms and a shower room, all of which is on the ground floor.
On the first floor is a landing with cupboard space, two double bedrooms, a study/ bedrooom and the family bathroom. Attic space too just above.
The front garden is south facing with large flowerbeds and ‘an area for swings’, while the rear garden is mainly laid to lawn. Lots of parking space round and about too.
As for price, it is up for £650,000 if you fancy this place.
