It might lose a few fans because of the renovation, but the look of this 1930s art deco property in Foxton, Northumberland will win over a lot more.
Not a great deal out there about this one, but it has a strong look that I know appeals to a lot of you out there. So with that in mind, I’m featuring it regardless.
You will find it in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just a short distance from the ‘much sought after’ coastal village of Alnmouth on Northumberland’s Heritage coastline and as a result, not far from sandy beaches if that’s your thing. It is also near the market town of Alnwick and not far from a train line serving Newcastle, London and Edinburgh. So location is a selling point here.
So is the architecture. This is a design that turns heads. But as I said, it is also a house that has been updated.
A look at the exterior suggests updates over the years, not just recently. But without taking too much away from the architecture itself. Inside is a similar story.
Some original details seem to be in place, including internal doors and storage cupboards from what I can see. That renovation isn’t too bad either. It’s a very clean and plain finish, one that could possibly take a bit more character if you find some vintage fittings. Ok, the likes of the kitchen and bathroom are very much of the 21st century, but as a long term project, you could always hint around for something more in keeping over time.
The bottom line here is that it is a project of sorts, but one that I would certainly love to take on.
In terms of the space, an entrance vestibule leads to ab entrance hallway, which in turn takes you to the main reception rooms. That’s a 27ft lounge / dining room with two sets of double doors leading onto the rear garden and beyond that, the fitted kitchen, a utility / boot room with WC, ground floor bathroom and separate WC.
That amazing staircase with feature full height window leads to the first floor and its four bedrooms. The master bedroom and bedroom three both have external access doors leading on to the first floor flat roof. Yes, we love a flat roof / terrace here.
Also on this floor is a shower room / WC and a staircase to the second floor with another access door onto the main flat roof. According to the agent, the roof terrace has been used as such in the past, but ‘may require alteration’ to meet with current health and safety regulations.
A good amount of outside space in this one too. The house has a gravelled dual access driveway for off road parking, along with a double integral garage. Mature lawned gardens as well, with the grounds covering something like 0.273 acres and with views across the rear over the golf course towards the coast.
It has so much going for it, especially for fans of the art deco style. £650,000 is the guide price.
