We jumped for joy when we saw this 1930s Ted Wilford-designed art deco property in Earl Shilton, Leicestershire hit the market.
That’s because it has been a tough time of late for art deco houses, with a couple featuring on our social media streams that have either been replaced or fallen into severe disrepair. It’s all too common these days. Thankfully someone has taken the opposite route with this house.
As we said in the title, it dates from the 1930s and was the work of local artist Ted Wilford, who had ‘a unique vision’ for his house. At least, it was unique for the area and is still talked a out today.
The artist’s vision is still here for all to see, although the interior has been updated. Not totally though.
The exterior looks to have been protected from over-enthusiastic developers over the decades, with the angles, curves and glass porch still very much in place. In fact, the house is a vision both front and back.
Inside, it a more mixed picture. Let’s get one thing clear, someone has done a lot of work protecting this house and its character, with windows, doors, fireplaces and a staircase very much in keeping – and perhaps original to – the 1930s build.
But beyond that, the finishes are clean and modern, the kitchen is contemporary, along with the bathroom. This is art deco for a modern family, not a museum or time capsule. Regardless of that, we still love it.
As for the space, that glass porch leads to an entrance hall and into a lounge with curved window and access to rear garden, a dining room and a kitchen / breakfast area, also with access to the rear garden. A downstairs shower finishes things off.
Head upstairs and past the feature landing and you’ll find three bedrooms, one with period fireplace, along with the bathroom.
The outside space is also a selling point too, with an integral garage, a large raised patio area, lawn, a further patio with summerhouse / storage shed and various plants.
Fancy it? The house has just gone on the market for £315,000.
