This is a much-loved group of houses, so great to another Royston Summers lakeside property in Esher, Surrey up for sale.
I featured one fairly recently. In fact it was back in June when this one came onto the market. It generally in original condition, but did have a lot of contemporary finishes. This one is more faithful to the original design.
Not that you can tell from the outside. All of these houses are quite austere (which is no bad thing), with walls of glass allowing some wonderful framed views of the lake. That’s the feature for me.
There are 15 houses in this development, all dating back to around 1975 and built on a site that was once part of the gardens of Milbourne House, a former hunting lodge of Claremont House.
Many still have a distinctive ‘70s look both inside and out. Especially in the case of this house.
Yes, there are updates, most obviously when you look at the bathroom. But internally, very little else has changed apart from the furnishings. That’s perhaps because the current owners have lived here for the last 39 years.
Of course, that amazing 1970s kitchen is still in place, complete with its amazing tiling. But you also have the wood-clad walls, the original matching doors, the open tread staircase, the exposed brick too. As I said, pretty much everything except the bathrooms still in place and to be fair, there isn’t too much appeal in a 1970s bathroom and its plumbing.
Well, not quite. The current owners have recently extended this one to boost the number of bedrooms and bathrooms. No, I can’t see the ‘join’ either. It’s obviously a good job, although the extra rooms will be lacking the wood finishes of the original space.
As you can imagine, there is lots of living space here as a result of the extension, adding to an already substantial house. The reception space includes a drawing room, dining room and family room, which are joined by the kitchen / breakfast room.
There are now five bedrooms here, as well as four bathrooms, with the master suite having underfloor heating. That’s the extension, which is over the double garage.
Of course, the outside space is a selling point too, with manicured gardens and a good area of patio to relax and entertain. Oh and of course the lake, such an amazing setting.
These houses never come cheap and with an asking price of £1,895,000, this one doesn’t buck that trend.
